Tijuca Forest – our muse

The spectacular Tijuca tropical forest that cloaks the hills of Rio de Janeiro was not always there. By the mid 1800’s, after years of clearing for agriculture, the forest was degraded and the city was suffering water supply issues and floods. The Emperor, Dom Pedro II took control of the area and commenced reforestation, establishing one of the largest urban forests in the world and one that stands to this day as a national park. Now you and the TBN Atlantic Rainforest team have the opportunity to create new forests.

Funded by the demand for carbon credits and the desire to restore habitat, TBN Atlantic Rainforest are undertaking similar projects across Brazil. Like the Tijuca Forest, these forests will offer numerous and timeless benefits from carbon sequestration, biodiversity enhancement and social investment.

Sitio Macacu

TBN’s proof of concept project. A few hours from Rio de Janeiro city, TBN has developed a 30 hectare project at Sitio Macacu. Previously cattle pasture, this location represents a small scale pilot of the TBN model with all the benefits.

Project #1

TBN’s flagship project. This 3,000 hectare project is the first of our full size projects and delivers ~36,000 ton CO2e per annum of ultra-high quality carbon removal.
